Dissertation title: G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their impact on ion conductances in excitable cells.

Abstract: Seven-transmembrane domain receptors (7TM receptors), also known as G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), regulate intimately ionic conductances in excitable cells. In my project I’m going to concentrate on the physiology of the serotonergic system, that plays an important role in depression and anxiety disorders. Second, I will extend my inivestigations on the physiology of the pain system, that strongly influences emotional states and feelings . Understanding the molecular basis of depression or pain will hopefully help to find better therapies for patients that suffer from either of them.
